Peace, welcome to another edition of TheEasefulPlace. How are you in these end of Summer energies?
A huge part of my end of summer excitement is noticing that this space can transform into whatever we need and want it to be. August's audacity and creativity does this to us. As far as the imagination goes, anything is possible, you can create what you want because you say so, and September will bring with it to-do lists and resets and so this quiet pocket of time is for honing in on creating from a freer place. This is the season for making it exist, lots of cherishing and imagining what we'll carry with us into the next transition.
This has turned into a collaborative event for women and girls where we meet across cultures and wisdoms to deepen ease and open sharing. Today i'm introducing Tiana, a woman i deeply admire and who has created space for empowerment and safety for women of all generations to reconnect with their cycles, creative natures, and bodies. Today's interview is diving into her world and exploring what she is creating in the world.

About the series: These interviews exist to inspire us on our journeys to creating the lives, communities, families, and inner environments needed to house ease. i select artists from around the world with different modes of creation and lifestyles to show how possible it is for us to build ease and art into our lives. The intention is to deepen our understanding of what is possible, to think limitlessly and in community.
Artist Interview with Tiana
Who is Tiana?

I am Tiana, a mother, creative, community worker, project coordinator, and an advocate for women’s and girls’ wellness. Much of my work centres around creating spaces where women and girls can learn, express themselves, and reconnect with their bodies, culture, creativity, and community.
Through my work with Empress Circle, I’ve been involved in initiatives around menstrual and womb education, menstrual hygiene, mentorship, wellness, creative expression, and community care. I’ve also facilitated and supported spaces that allow girls and women to have conversations about their bodies and experiences that aren’t always given room in our communities.
Outside of community work, I am also a creative who explores textiles, apparel, design, food, and other forms of self-expression. Motherhood has also become a major part of my learning and has deepened my understanding of nurturing, presence, and what it means to build for the next generation.
What is your one word mantra in life?
ROOTED. To me, being rooted means knowing who I am, understanding where I come from, staying connected to my values, and allowing myself to grow without losing my foundation.
Who are your favourite artists?
Visual:: Aboutnatlife / Zaid Smith / Kelly Whyte / Artbyancient / Alexis Walker /Javier Dayes
Musical:: Richie Spice /Capelton/ Luciano /Dezarie /Midnite /Akae Beka /Nasio Fontaine/ Erykah Badu/ Garnet Silk /Lauryn Hill
What or where is the easeful place for you?
My easeful place is nature and home. It’s being somewhere I can slow down, breathe, create, be with my daughter, and not feel like I have to perform or constantly produce.
Sometimes it’s simply being outdoors, around trees, water, plants, or sitting quietly with myself. Ease for me is being present enough to actually experience my life.
What is your art practice as a creator?
My creative practice is very intuitive and experimental. I work with textiles, apparel, tie-dye, fabric, visual design, and other materials that allow me to translate thoughts, feelings, culture, and experiences into something tangible.
I don’t always begin with a fixed outcome. Sometimes I allow the material and the process to guide me. I’m interested in the relationship between nature, culture, ancestral memory, textiles, identity, and storytelling. For me, creating is also a form of learning and documentation.
What led you to create Empress Circle?
Empress Circle has been in existence since the COVID period. I came into the project as the Project Coordinator and was introduced to the work that was already being done within the community of Hastings for girls.
From there, it became a beautiful journey of continuing what had already been built while bringing my own ideas, experiences, and vision into the space. We’ve been able to continue doing tremendous work within the community while expanding what Empress Circle can offer our girls and young women.
I’m particularly inspired by the need for spaces where girls can understand their bodies, have honest conversations about menstrual and womb health, explore creativity, develop confidence, and know that their community sees and supports them. So for me, it’s not about replacing what came before. It’s about honouring the foundation, adding to it, and continuing to carry the work forward in ways that respond to our community today.

You are so worthy of ease. How do you remind yourself of this?
I remind myself that I don’t have to earn rest by exhausting myself first.
I’m learning that being productive isn’t the only measure of my worth. Sometimes choosing to slow down, spend time with my daughter, sit in nature, create without an agenda, or simply breathe is also part of the work.
I remind myself to return to my roots, return to my body, and return to what truly matters. Ease isn’t the absence of purpose; sometimes ease is what allows me to move through my purpose with greater clarity.
This Sunday you'll be able to share space and sit with Tiana's wisdoms in our Women and Girl's Womb Wisdom virtual workshop. Tickets will be donated to the Empress Circle initiative. Join us for a soul-nourishing gathering.
